For the last several years Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington has been focused on fostering a culture that reflects our core tenets of diversity and inclusion, and that consistently progresses our equity goals. To this end, Make-A-Wish Alaska & Washington is expanding our volunteer programming to build a larger, more diverse, and more effective volunteer base to successfully serve wish families throughout our territory.

Through a generous grant from the MJ Murdock Charitable Trust, we can welcome our first Program Manager, Volunteer Outreach & Engagement to our chapter to help shape and support our volunteer community. The ideal candidate will have a strong grounding in volunteer programming, be a strategist, and advocate-able provide discerning assessment of internal programs with a focus on growing a diverse volunteer core, creating a culture of belonging, and in removing barriers to participation for volunteers to meet our mission of – a wish for every eligible child.

The primary responsibilities for this role are: Develop a robust and sustainable outreach program to recruit volunteers across the diverse communities, cultures, and geographic regions we serve; design high-quality and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)-focused trainings and resources to equip volunteers to serve appropriately and confidently in cross-cultural environments; and, create technical and strategic solutions to build volunteer capacity virtually and in-person that is impactful and convenient for families in remote areas.

The right candidate for this position is committed to ensure that our volunteer policies and practices are inclusive and equitable and reflect the communities we serve. They bring a mix of relevant/transferable project management experience, as well as skills in volunteer outreach and recruitment program design/implementation. They are adept at building successful relationships with stakeholders and evaluating program and project success. The ideal candidate is confident but curious, creative but detail-oriented, keen but flexible, courageous but empathetic. They thrive among colleagues but embrace the need to work independently, and they enjoy collaborative accountability. They contribute positively to a healthy, thriving, high-performing team, and they are committed to bringing the joy of wishes to children with critical illnesses.

Salary range for this position is $60,000 - $64,500 per year, depending upon experience. Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington offers a competitive benefits package (medical, dental/vision/life insurance), and generous vacation time.

Managing Our Funds

Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington raise funds to support our mission through corporate sponsorships, special events, foundation grants and individual contributions. However, we do not solicit funds by telephone and receive no federal or state funding. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, all contributions are deductible to the extent permitted by law. Our financial statements are audited locally by CliftonLarsonAllen LLP.

We're celebrating nearly four decades of granting wishes and it's all because of you!

In 1986, thanks to the dedication and support of our local community, we granted six wishes. Nearly four decades later, we celebrate granting 8,000 wishes thanks to YOUR kindness, compassion and investment. YOU make transformation possible for children with critical illnesses each and every day and we are so thankful!
